Coaching at Flagler

Kathryn (Geouge) Grant became the second coach in the history (started in 2009) of Flagler fast-pitch softball, on June 27, 2017 and started on July 10.


Flagler had one All-Peach Belt Conference selection in 2023 as Cassidy Crump was selected to second-team. Seven earned a place on the PBC Team of Academic Distinction. The Saints had a PBC Freshman of the Week in Jordan Sheets.


In 2022, the Saints had two All-Peach Belt Conference selections in Kyleigh Taylor and Alyssa Velez. Another six earned academic all-conference honors. Flagler had a PBC Player of the Week, a Pitcher of the Week, and three Freshmen of the Week. Flagler also posted wins over nationally ranked Valdosta State University (No. 3) and Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (No. 21).


Grant coached three Saints to all-conference honors in 2021 as well as five wins over nationally ranked competition. Kyra Gipson earned first team All-PBC honors while NaJah Gerrald and Mackenzie Smith were selected to the second team. The Saints also placed four on the academic all-conference team: Paige Maseda, Morgan Murphy, Kyleigh Taylor, and Madelyn Wise.


The 2020 team got off to a great start with an 18-8 record before the COVID-19 pandemic forced the end to the season. The Saints were an impressive 12-2 at home.


The Saints improved in year two under Grant with a 31-23 overall record and a 13-7 record in the Peach Belt Conference. The Saints posted some big wins over nationally-ranked programs in 2018. Flagler splits with No. 4 Valdosta State, defeated No. 10 Florida Tech, and swept a doubleheader from No. 3 North Georgia, all at Flagler Field. Kyra Gipson earned all-conference honors after posting a 19-11 record with a 2.13 earned run average.


Flagler posted a 26-27 overall record and a 9-11 mark in the Peach Belt Conference in Geouge's first season at the helm. Natalie Murphy and Garland Evans earned all-conference honors and six players were named academic all-conference. Natalie Murphy was selected to the academic all-district team.

Prior to Flagler

Grant comes to Flagler from Lenoir-Rhyne University where she served as the associate head coach last year, the assistant coach (2014 through 2016) and graduate assistant (fall of 2011-13). In her time as a coach on the Bears’ staff, Lenoir-Rhyne posted a 251-89 record (.738 winning pct.) and went to five NCAA Division II Southeast Regionals as well as winning or sharing four regular season South Atlantic Conference regular season titles. The Bears won the SAC Tournament title in 2012 and 2013.


In 2017, Grant helped coach the Bears to a 46-13 overall record and a 16-4 mark in conference play. Lenoir-Rhyne finished with the third highest batting average in the nation with a .361 mark, was seventh in on-base percentage (.415) and slugging percentage (.539), eighth in doubles per game (1.83), and ninth in scoring (6.8 runs per game) and triples per game (0.41).


As an assistant, Grant instructed the outfielders and the team’s hitters. She also spent time as a pitching coach and was a first base coach. Grant conducted the team’s weight lifting and conditioning sessions and oversaw the student-athletes’ academic progress. She also handled recruiting duties.


Grant has helped coach two NFCA All-Americans, 27 All-SAC players, the SAC Pitcher of the Year, the SAC Player of the Year and the SAC Freshman of the Year. Also, nine players have earned Daktronics/D2CCA all-region honors and 14 more have earned NFCA all-region accolades.


Personal

Prior to her time in Hickory, North Carolina, Grant was a graduate assistant at her alma mater, Catawba College in Salisbury, North Carolina, for the fall season in 2010. A 2010 graduate of Catawba, Grant was a four-year starter and ranks first in career runs scored, walks and assists. She is second in stolen bases and games played. Grant is fourth all-time in hits and fifth in runs batted in, on-base percentage and home runs. She was a NFCA All-America Scholar-Athlete in 2010.


The Canton, North Carolina native received her bachelor’s in physical education, with a minor in K-12 education, from Catawba in 2010 and earned her master’s in public health from Lenoir-Rhyne in 2013.

Kaylee Allen

Kaylee Allen begins her sixth season as an assistant coach.


She helped coach Kyra Gipson to a pair of All-Peach Belt Conference selections (2019 and 2021). She also had had pitchers earn PBC Pitcher of the Week honors six times.


Allen comes to Flagler after finishing her collegiate career at Presbyterian College in Clinton, South Carolina. In just two seasons for the Blue Hose, she made 52 appearances, and started 33. Her appearances and starts rank in the top 10 in the PC DI record book. Allen pitched in 189.0 innings, her total strikeouts rank in the DI-era top 10. Her career-high nine against Saint Francis (Pa.) in 2018 tied for eighth in the D1-era record book. In 2018, she led the team in strikeouts, innings pitched, appearances, and starts.


A member of the Society for the Advancement of Management club, Allen attended the Big South Leadership Conference in 2017 and spent time volunteering with the Mauldin Miracle League.


Allen graduated in the spring of 2018 with a degree in business administration.


Prior to her time at Presbyterian, Allen pitched two seasons at Daytona (Fla.) State College. She helped lead the Lady Falcons to a second-place finish in the Mid-Florida Conference in 2016. Allen was a two-time NFCA All-America Scholar-Athlete and earned academic all-conference both years. She earned second-team all-conference honors in 2015 and was selected as the team's pitcher of the year.


Allen is a native of St. Augustine and is an alum of St. Augustine High School.
