Ally Hattermann

Since her hiring in the fall of 1999, Ally Hattermann has been the cornerstone of Gordon State College softball and has led the Highlanders to remarkable success. Under her leadership, the team has secured over 600 victories, establishing itself as a contender in the GCAA with multiple regular season and conference tournament titles. Her 2012 and 2023 teams clinched the NJCAA Southeast District Championships and advanced to the NJCAA Division I College World Series, where they both achieved a ninth-place national finish.

Hattermann's impact reaches far beyond the diamond, shaping not just athletes but champions. She has guided GCAA All-Region players, GCAA Players of the Year, GCAA Pitchers of the Year, and NJCAA All-Americans. Her influence extends into the classroom, where her student-athletes consistently achieve academic excellence, earning prestigious spots on the GCAA, NJCAA, and NFCA All-Academic Teams.

As a two-sport athlete, Hattermann was a standout shortstop at Eureka College in Illinois, where she made a significant impact. She earned All Northern Illinois and Iowa First Team Conference honors, NAIA Great Lakes All-Section First Team recognition, and was a finalist for the NCAA Woman of the Year Award in 1997. During the summers, she showcased her talent as a second baseman with the nationally renowned Pekin Lettes in ASA Major Women's Softball.

In 2002, Hattermann was inducted into the Eureka College Athletic Hall of Fame for both softball and tennis. She remains in the top 10 of nearly every offensive statistical category for softball and made an unforgettable debut in collegiate tennis, winning her first pro-set match 10-0. In 2004, she was again honored by Eureka College, this time as a member of the 1996 championship softball team.

Hattermann graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in Athletic Training and went on to earn a Master of Science degree in Exercise Science and Biomechanics from The University of Mississippi. While at Ole Miss, she served as a graduate instructor and volunteer assistant softball coach, earning certification as an athletic trainer (ATC).

Beyond coaching, Hattermann is a full-time Professor of Health and Wellness at Gordon State College and has served on numerous campus committees. She also serves as the Region Softball Chair for the GCAA Conference and is a leading mentor for the NFCA. Originally from Dunlap, Illinois, she now resides in McDonough, Georgia, with her husband Doug, and their daughter Marlee.
